As Eid al-Adha 2027 approaches, the first question most people ask is simple: when exactly is it, and on which days can my Wajib Qurbani be performed? This guide covers the 2027 Qurbani season, the timing requirement for Wajib sacrifice, and how to make sure yours is completed on time.
When is Eid al-Adha 2027?
In 2027, Eid al-Adha begins on Sunday 16 May and ends on Wednesday 19 May. The eve of Eid falls on Saturday 15 May.

These dates follow the Hijri calendar. Because that calendar is lunar, Eid al-Adha moves roughly eleven days earlier in the Gregorian calendar each year. Depending on the sighting of the Dhul Hijjah crescent, some countries may observe Eid a day apart; the final announcement is confirmed closer to the date.
Which days can Wajib Qurbani be performed?
Wajib (obligatory) sacrifice is bound to a specific window of time. It begins after the Eid prayer has been offered and continues until sunset on the fourth day of Eid. For 2027 that window is:
- Sunday 16 May — after the Eid prayer
- Monday 17 May
- Tuesday 18 May
- Wednesday 19 May — until sunset
An animal sacrificed outside this four-day window does not count as Wajib Qurbani; it is treated as ordinary charity. The same applies to a sacrifice made on the eve of Eid (15 May) or before the Eid prayer. This is precisely why a Wajib sacrifice needs to be arranged early.
"Whoever sacrifices before the prayer, it is meat he has provided for his family. Whoever sacrifices after the prayer has completed his rite and followed the way of the Muslims."

A Qurbani operation is not arranged overnight. Sourcing the animals, preparing proper conditions for the sacrifice, assigning volunteers and distributing the meat to families in need is weeks of work. Requests that arrive close to Eid cannot always be fitted into a four-day window.
